FRISCO, Texas -- The Nicholls State University baseball program captured eighth in the the Southland Conference's 2020 Preseason Poll, per a release Thursday morning from the league office in Frisco, Texas. The poll is voted upon by the league's head coaches and sports information departments.

The Colonels received 108 points in total, ranking 36 points off seventh UIW and just seven points up on No. 9 New Orleans. Sam Houston State paced the conference with 17 first-place votes and 276 total points while Central Arkansas (five first-place votes, 247 points), McNeese (one first-place vote, 244 points) and Southeastern Louisiana (three first-place votes, 243 points) rounded out the top four.

Nicholls officially opens the 2020 campaign on Friday, Feb. 14 with the Baseball on the Bayou Classic -- the first of two home tournaments -- before shifting focus to Southland Conference play on Friday, Mar. 6, trekking east for a three-game series at rival New Orleans. The Colonels close out the regular season schedule on May 14-16 at HBU, squaring off against the Huskies before potentially advancing to the Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas.
