FRISCO, Texas -  Nicholls State University sophomore Loan-Anh Johnson was one of 10 women's basketball players recognized Wednesday for their effort in the classroom and on the court as the Southland Conference announced its 2019-20 Southland Women's Basketball All-Academic Teams.

Johnson landed on second team after posting a 3.71 grade-point average as a health sciences pre-professional major. Her honor marked the fourth consecutive year that head coach DoBee Plaisance's team has had an all-academic selection. 

On the hardwood, Johnson averaged 10.9 points per game which ranked 19th in the Southland. She had the fifth-best field goal percentage in the league at 48.2 percent and also ranked 17th at the free throw line at 74.2 percent. 

The Wichita, Kansas native scored in double figures in 16 games and finished with 20 points or more in four different contests. She was named Southland Player of the Week in early January after averaging 21.5 points and 6.5 points while shooting 77 percent from the field. Johnson scored a career-high 23 points in a crucial win at Central Arkansas which was part of the team's season-ending seven-game winning streak. 

Southland All-Academic teams are voted on by a head coach, sports information director and academic/compliance staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.00 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for all-academic selection.
