LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Monday afternoon, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the organization's 2019-20 Team Academic Award honorees, selecting both the Nicholls State University indoor and beach volleyball squads for the second consecutive year. Over the course of the past year, the Colonels composed a strong 3.37 indoor GPA along with a 3.40 mark for beach, joining a record 226 fellow NCAA Division I indoor programs, 40 other beach squads and 1,312 high school and collegiate volleyball teams on the recipient list.

Notably, the Red & Gray served as just one of two Southland programs (HBU) to earn recognition for both the indoor and beach teams with the conference placing nine of its 13 squads overall. The AVCA Team Academic Award aims to highlight men's and women's high school and collegiate volleyball programs who display high levels of consistent excellence in the classroom, honoring squads who maintain an average 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
