THIBODAUX, La. - With the season opener rapidly approaching, the Nicholls State University football team saw its first live action of the spring as the Colonels had a controlled scrimmage Saturday morning on Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium.
Head coach
Tim Rebowe put his team through around 100 plays, including third-down and red zone situations. The offense had two touchdown drives early with the ball starting at its own 25, then closed out the scrimmage with three consecutive 60-yard drives ending with a TD. For the defense, the squad totaled three interceptions, four sacks and two fumbles.Â
OFFENSIVE NOTABLES
- All four quarterbacks -

Lindsey Scott Jr. - saw a significant amount of snaps under center. Scott had the most pass attempts of the four, finishing 11 of 18 for 172 yards passing and one touchdown. He had the lone TD pass, connecting with running back
Troy Hurst for 13 yards.Â
- Hurst capped the first scoring drive for the offense with a 28-yard touchdown run.
Dontaze Costly set up the TD with receptions of 30 yards and 9 yards from Scott. Costly led the receivers with 72 yards on three receptions.
- Four other receivers had three receptions -
Quincy Cage Jr. (40 yards),
Dai'Jean Dixon (35),
Arron McKenney (34), and
Devonta Jason (24).Â
- Along with Hurst,
Ronnie Jackson,
John Carrington III, and
Corey Warren Jr. all tallied a rushing touchdown. All three came inside of three yards in the final three drives of the scrimmage.
DEFENSIVE NOTABLES
- The defense registered sacks in back-to-back series from
Nehemiah Augustus and
Dellary Oubre. Oubre finished with a pair of sacks while Augustus recorded one of the Colonels's three interceptions.
- The other two picks were courtesy of
Jarius Monroe and
Logan Scott. Monroe, who also had a pass breakup, got underneath a floating pass by Scott in the third-down scenarios.
- Newcomers
Juan Monjarres and
Myles Vigne were also credited with sacks.

Perry Ganci registered a 7-yard tackle for loss on a rushing play.

Kevin Johnson forced a fumble to halt a drive at midfield.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTABLES

Craig Walker handled the majority of the punting duties. Walker is in his first season after transferring from ULM.
- Four kickers had attempts during the field goal portion, trying for 32- and 39-yarders.
Gavin Lasseigne (4-6) and
Alec Bland (4-4) each made four, followed by
Patrick Vanderbrook (3-4) andÂ
Gunnar Jones (2-6).
- Jones made good on the only field goal attempted during live action, making a 35-yarder.Â
