MONTGOMERY, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's golf team finished its first day of the Bentwater Intercollegiate Monday afternoon, shooting a 296 to claim 10th out of 12 teams through 18 holes.

Ryan O'Neil had the top score again with a 1-over 72, freshman
Jace LeJeune accounted for the Colonels' first eagle of the season. On the 405-yard 15th, LeJeune knocked in his second shot from 125 yards out. The eagle was one of three marks under par for LeJeune in the final six holes as he finished with a 3-over 74.
O'Neil was steady with only 13 pars in the round. He birdied holes 9 and 12 and had three bogeys. He ended the day tied for 18th.
The Colonels will be looking to move up the leaderboard, trailing Rice (294)Â and UTSA by two strokes. Texas State leads the field with a 285.
