JACKSON, Tenn. – The Nicholls State University men's golf team received a career-best 4-under 68 by
Ryan O'Neil in the second round of the Grover Page Classic, as the Colonels completed the first day of their opening tournament tied for ninth place out of 16 teams.
O'Neil sits in a tie for 10th on the leaderboard, turning in scorecards of 73 and 68 for a -3 overall. Along with sinking four birdies in the second 18, he was bogey free with 14 pars. O'Neil started the day with four birdies in the opening round, but had three bogeys and a double.
As a team, the Colonels shot 297-293—590 to tie for ninth with Central Arkansas and only nine strokes separate Nicholls from fourth place. Host UT Martin led the field with a 559.
Freshman
Jace LeJeune has the second-best showing for the Red and Gray, shooting 74s in each of the rounds. At 4-over, LeJeune ended the day tied for 38th.
FINAL ROUND
The Colonels wrap up the tournament Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes. The shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m.
