THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State University first-year head baseball coach
Mike Silva announced Wednesday the 2022 game schedule, which features 32 home contests on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.
Nicholls has matchups with four teams that participated in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, with all four being from Louisiana -- LSU, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, and Southern. The Colonels begin Coach Silva's inaugural campaign at home against SEC member Missouri for a series starting Feb. 18.
For the nonconference slate, Nicholls will host single games against in-state foes Tulane (Feb. 23), Louisiana Tech (March 1), Louisiana (March 22), and Southern (April 19). The home series include Missouri (Feb. 18-21), Mississippi Valley (Feb. 25-27), and ULM (March 11-13).
After starting the year with nine home games, the Colonels' first away contest is at Jackson State (March 2) before heading to Memphis for a three-game set. Along with having home-and-homes with Tulane, Louisiana, Jackson State and Southern, Nicholls will head to Baton Rouge on May 3 to face LSU. The Colonels will be looking the snap a five-game drought in Alex Box Stadium with their last win coming in 2015.
With eight teams in the Southland Conference, Nicholls will play a total of eight league series which includes two against rival Southeastern. The Colonels begin (March 25-27 @SLU) and close out (May 13-15 @NICH) their SLC schedule against the Lions.
The Southland postseason will feature two four-team brackets from May 19-21, with the winners from each advancing to a championship series the following weekend.
