THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University softball team heads to Birmingham, Alabama this weekend for four games in the UAB Softball Invite.
The Colonels (4-3) were slated to play five games, but one has been canceled due to bad weather in the forecast for Friday morning. The rest of the schedule is as follows:

at UAB - 4 p.m.
vs. Alabama State - 6:30 p.m.
SUNDAY, FEB. 28
vs. Eastern Illinois - 10 a.m.
Nicholls started off the season with a perfect 3-0 mark in the Lion Classic but suffered three consecutive losses at home in their double doubleheader last weekend. The Colonels defeated Southern Miss in Game 1 Friday before dropping a close contest in the nightcap. On Saturday, HBU took both games in a nonconference matchup.
Through seven games, Nicholls is outhitting the opposition, .285 to .244.
Scout Blades leads the lineup with a .500 batting average with nine hits and the lone Colonel home run.
Ashlyn Reavis also had nine hits for a .474 average, and
Kennedy Hebert has eight for a .381 clip. Reavis hit safely in her first seven games as a Colonel while Hebert paces the team with four multi-hit games on the season.
Jordan Moon has been solid in the circle, posting a 0.72 ERA in 9.2 innings.
Alexis LaBure has seen the most time for the pitching staff, tossing 18.2 innings and has a 2-1 record with a 3.75 ERA.
Host UAB is 4-5 on the year, notching wins over Ole Miss, Belmont, and two against Southeastern Louisiana. Three of its losses were against No. 9 UL-Lafayette and No. 4 Alabama.
Eastern Illinois has been on the road for a week and is 6-1 on the trip. Its victories came against Southern, Jackson State and ULM, with the lone setback also against ULL.
Alabama State is 1-7 but has played a tough schedule. The Hornets fell to Alabama as well, and have a loss to Notre Dame, which was receiving votes in the top 25 poll.
