BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – 
Emily Danehower tossed six shutout innings and the offense scored four runs in the opening frame as the Nicholls State University softball team closed out the UAB Softball Invite with a 4-0 win over Eastern Illinois Sunday morning. 
 
Nicholls finished 2-2 for the weekend to improve its record to 6-5 on the year. 
 
Danehower (3-1) allowed only three hits and struck out one Panther. She issued two of her five walks in the fifth but got out of inning with a popup. 
Jordan Moon pitched the seventh, giving up a lone walk.
 
The Colonels wasted little time in putting runs on the board against EIU's Jade Montgomery. 
Kelsey Miller led off with a single and scored two batters later on an 
Ashlyn Reavis double. 
Melise Gossen reached on a single, setting up 
Kennedy Hebert for a 2-run triple. Hebert then came home on a sacrifice fly by 
Alexa Poche' for the early 4-0 advantage.
 
Nicholls totaled 11 hits in the victory, getting two apiece from Miller, Reavis and Gossen. Hebert's triple in the first extended her hitting streak to six games.
 
ON DECK
Nicholls will have the week off before returning home next Tuesday (March 9) to take on Southern University. First pitch at Swanner Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
