THIBODAUX, La. – Nearly two weeks since its last game, the Nicholls State University softball team returns to the field this weekend as the Colonels welcome Northwestern State to Swanner Field for a three-game Southland Conference series. 
 
Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first pitch with Saturday's finale slated for noon. Admission to all home softball games is free of charge.
 
Nicholls had an extremely brief conference schedule last year, winning two-out-of-three in its lone league series at HBU in 2020. The Colonels were projected to place in seventh place in the 2021 Southland preseason poll, with this weekend's opponent Northwestern State coming in one spot ahead at sixth. 
 
The Colonels post a 6-5 record on the season and are led on offense by freshman Ashlyn Reavis. She has 16 hits with three doubles and a triple for a sparkling .516 batting average. Kennedy Hebert is second on the team with 12 hits and has a .364 average with a team-high eight RBIs. Hebert carries a six-game hitting streak into the series against NSU.
 
Emily Danehower heads the pitching staff with a 3-1 record and a 1.96 ERA. She has not allowed a run in her previous three outings through 11.2 innings.
 
The Lady Demons bring a 5-6 record to Thibodaux following a rough showing in the Wooo Pig Classic at nationally-ranked Arkansas. NSU lost all five of its games, including three by run-rule.
 
Offensive leaders for Northwestern State include Kaitlyn St. Clair (.435 BA) and Alexis Perry (8 RBIs). Three of the RBIs for Perry came on a home run against Arkansas.
