Lindsey Scott Jr. and wide receiver
Dontaze Costly have been named Southland Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Scott Jr. was tabbed offensive player of the week after accounting for six touchdowns in the Colonels' 75-45 win over ranked UIW. Costly garnered the honor for special teams for his 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Scott led the Colonels to eight touchdowns on their first eight offensive drives in a 75-point showing against ranked UIW. Scott threw only four incompletions (17-21), racking up 264 yards passing and tied the school's single-game record with five TD passes. He also added 81 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Nicholls totaled 614 yards of total offense and 9.0 per play en route to their most points in a Southland game in school history.
Costly was the first Colonel since 2013 to return a kickoff for a touchdown. He was also the recipient of Scott's first two touchdown passes on the day, scoring on 22- and 48-yard receptions for his only catches of the game.
