BATON ROUGE, La. -- Highlighted by a silver medal showing by
Megan Nevlud in the women's 1500m, not to mention yet-another reset of the school's long jump record by
Chelsea Harrington, the Nicholls State University track & field program posted an overall competitive performance throughout Saturday's outdoor meet at the LSU Boots Garland Invitational, concluding the
one-day event with nine finishes inside the Top 10.
KEY STORYLINES & FINISHES
-- In what has evolved into an unsurprising notation meet-to-meet, junior Chelsea Harrington snapped her own long jump school record yet again behind a 6.11m (20-0.5) vault en route to a fourth-place overall finish. Notably, the Slidell product broke into the six-meter range for the first time -- previous best was 5.97m -- and currently sits fifth within the Southland along with 63rd nationally for the event.
-- Meanwhile, freshman Megan Nevlud stole Harrington's placement thunder for the first time this outdoor season, as the Texas native registered second in the women's 1500m behind a 4:42.58 time, good for eighth overall on the program's Top 10 performance list.
-- Over in the women's 3000m, sophomore Skyler Goodman put together a solid outing as she clocked an 11:41.89 time for seventh overall.
-- Sophomore Amiya Matthews logged a tie for eighth place in the women's high jump, posting a 1.58m leap, before picking up ninth over in the women's javelin throw behind a 31.23m toss.
-- On the men's side, junior Dustin Worley locked down a 10th-place finish in the 3000m, clocking a 9:23.90 time for the event, while senior Donnell Adair registered ninth overall in the discus throw off a 41.38m toss.
-- Last, but certainly not least, a pair of women's relay teams -- the 4x100m and 4x400m -- racked up a pair of Top 10 performances as well, as the former -- composed of Omo Oboh, Rami Mitchell, Kiara Bethley and Keiondra Narcisse -- captured sixth on the leaderboard while the latter -- made up of Hailey Alcorn, Maerys Joseph, Nia Maye and Briana Land -- secured third overall.
UP NEXT
With the short trek north to Baton Rouge wrapped up, the Colonels turn their attention to the team's final opportunity to compete prior to the upcoming Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, heading back to Hammond, La. on Saturday, May 1 for the Southeastern Invitational.
