THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team is set to face off against Abilene Christian University in a weekend series April 23-24 at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park. Friday's game starts at 12 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader begins at 12 p.m. The series was originally scheduled for a doubleheader Friday evening and a single game on Saturday but shifted due to the forecast.Â
Saturday's doubleheader will serve as the program's annual Pink Game, sponsored by Thibodaux Regional Health System. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games to help raise breast cancer awareness.
The Colonels (10-21, 3-15 SLC) are coming off of their first series win of the season over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, finishing the series 4-2 and 8-2 victories, with a 3-2 loss in between. Â
Ashlyn Reavis led Nicholls with two hits in each of the Colonels' wins. She heads into the weekend ranked fourth in the Southland Conference with a .398 batting average.
Skylar Hamilton also had four hits in the series and had two runs scored.Â
Jordan Moon led the Colonels in pitching against the Islanders, going 1-0 in 8 innings and having a 1.75 ERA. Moon leads Nicholls for the season with 56.2 innings pitched and a 3.71 ERA. Â
The Wildcats (7-30, 3-15 SLC) are coming off of an 11-game losing streak and having lost their last series against McNeese State University.Â
Shaylee Alani led the Wildcats in their opening game with McNeese, with two hits. In the final day of the series, she went 2-5 and also drew a walk. For the season, Donelle Johnson leads the ACU offense with a .361 batting average. Â
In the circle, Sam Bradley threw five innings in the first game of the series against the Cowgirls, giving up four hits and two earned runs. She has accounted for three of the Wildcats' victories this year.Â

In the last series against ACU, the Colonels were victorious with a three-game win in Abilene, Texas in 2019, with 12-4, 5-4 and 8-0 wins. The Colonels have been on a five-game win streak against the Wildcats since 2018. The series in Thibodaux in '18 featured a 15-inning pitchers' duel between Nicholls'
Megan Landry and ACU's Hannah Null, and
Moriah Strother hit a grand slam and 3-run home run in the same inning in a 13-0 Colonel victory,.Â
