THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team is set to compete in a series against Lamar University April 30 and May 1 in Beaumont, Texas. The Colonels will face off against the Cardinals in a doubleheader April 30 starting at 4 p.m. and will be playing the final game of the series May 1 at 12 p.m.
In the last series for the Colonels (11-23, 4-17 SLC), they fell short 2-1 against Abilene Christian, having a 3-1 win on April 23 and losses of 3-2 and 9-1 in the first and third games, respectively.
Leading the Colonels in pitching against Abilene Christian were Taryn Westbrook and Alexis LaBure. LaBure pitched all eight innings of the first game of the series, striking out two, and she has an ERA of 4.30. Westbrook pitched all seven innings of the second game of the series, also striking out two Wildcats.
Ashlyn Reavis leads the Colonels this season with a .412 batting average and had three hits in the first game of the series. Yasmeen Williams led Nicholls with 2 RBIs in the Colonels win against the Wildcats.
The Cardinals (5-40, 1-20 SLC) are coming off of a series loss against Houston Baptist, as well as an eight-game losing streak.
Aaliyah Ruiz led the Cardinals, pitching 9.4 innings in their series against Houston Baptist with six strikeouts total. Shelby Mixon pitched 9.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Audry Fleming had three hits in the second game of the series, and she has a batting average of .232. For the season, Hannah Carpenter leads the Cardinals with a .337 batting average.
The last matchup between the Colonels and Cardinals was in 2019, where Nicholls won the series 2-1, losing the first game 5-4, but coming back the next two 3-0 and 3-1, respectively.
