WACO, Texas - The Nicholls State University football team landed at No. 23 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, released Monday morning by the American Football Coaches Association. 
 
Nicholls received 88 points in the preseason poll to place 23^rd, which was the same ranking it had in the final coaches poll in the spring. The Colonels were slotted at No. 22 in the Stats Perform preseason poll.
 
The Red and Gray open their season against two FBS opponents, Memphis and nationally-ranked Louisiana. Nicholls makes their home debut on Sept. 25 against North Alabama before starting its eight-game Southland Conference schedule.
