THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University football team reported for fall camp Thursday and will have its first practice Friday morning, scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
 
Led by seventh-year head coach Tim Rebowe, the Colonels return to their regular slate after having last season pushed back from the fall of 2020 to the spring. The season opener is scheduled for Sept. 4 at Memphis.
 
The team will practice in the morning and will have Tuesdays off during camp. The first scrimmage is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14. The time for the following Saturday scrimmage is TBA. 
 
Practices will take place on the fields next to Ray E. Didier Field or inside John L. Guidry Stadium. 
 
Nicholls is coming off its fourth consecutive winning season and features 11 preseason All-Southland selections. Included in the honorees are offensive lineman P.J. Burkhalter and wide receiver Dai'Jean Dixon, who each earned preseason all-American recognition. Dixon was also one of 35 players in the FCS named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List on Wednesday.
 
The duo also makes up two of the 11 returning starters on the record-breaking Colonel offense from the spring season. Nicholls put up over 50 points twice in conference games and had a 45-point showing in the River Bell Classic. Nine starters also return for the Colonel defense, which notched a shutout in the 55-0 win over Lamar in February.
