CHICAGO - The Nicholls State University football team will enter the 2021 season ranked No. 22 in the nation, as Stats Perform released Monday morning its preseason FCS Top 25 poll.
Under seventh-year head coach
Tim Rebowe, Nicholls has been a regular in the national rankings since cracking the preseason poll in 2018. The Colonels climbed into the FCS rankings during the 2017 campaign which ended with their first of three consecutive playoff appearances.
Nicholls received 173 points to land at No. 22 and is joined in the poll by Southeastern. The Lions, which edged the Colonels in the Southland preseason poll, ranked at No. 15. UIW also garnered 19 points to finish in the top 40.
A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
The Colonels opened fall camp on Friday and finished their fourth practice Monday morning. The team is scheduled for its first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday at 9 a.m.
