THIBODAUX, La. -- As the Nicholls State University football program kicks off the 2021 campaign in earnest Saturday evening against Memphis, Colonel Athletics is proud to unveil the 50th Anniversary of Football logo, an official mark carried by this year's squad in honor of every team of our storied past dating back to the Red & Gray's inaugural 1972 season.

In regards to design, the logo aimed to encapsulate the history and tradition of Nicholls Football, featuring specific iconography recognizing championships, former student-athletes and our classic color scheme.

Throughout this season, Nicholls Athletics plans to highlight the exemplary history of Colonel Football through unique content via social media along with innumerous in-game promotions during each of our five home contests, all culminating in a final celebration at the 50th Year Game, slated for Saturday, Nov. 13 against Southland adversary UIW.

"We are thrilled to unveil this logo in celebration of the storied history of our football program," Director of Athletics Jonathan Terrell said. "While the hurricane has delayed some of our efforts, we remain steadfast in our endeavors to share this occasion with our loyal fans, our ever-committed alumni and our generous community."

The 50th Season of Nicholls Football officially launches Saturday evening at Memphis, kickoff slated for 6 p.m. at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
