Nicholls WBB Heads to UAB for First Road Test

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team is seeking its first 3-0 start in program history as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on UAB inside Bartow Arena on Tuesday, November 15.

The action will be available to watch via CUSA.tv for a small fee.

NICHOLLS COURT (2-0):
The Colonels come into the matchup fresh off home victories against Mobile (70-61) and Alabama A&M (60-55). In the two wins, Nicholls averaged 65 points and 42 rebounds a game and shot 41 percent from the field. They also boast a stout defense that has forced 34 turnovers and generated 18 steals.

In the first two games of the season, the Red & Gray offense was led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Freshman forward Lexi Alexander started her collegiate career with back-to-back double-doubles. First, she recorded 26 points and 11 rebounds against Mobile and followed that performance with 15 points and 20 rebounds against Alabama A&M. Alexander also added four blocks against the Bulldogs including one during the final five minutes of the game where the Colonels held them scoreless.

Sophomore forward Deonna Brister stuffed the stat sheet against Mobile, finishing the contest with 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals. In the game against the Bulldogs, she finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Freshman guard Kayla Keshmeshian scored nine points against Mobile and scored 12 against Alabama A&M. She shot 50 percent from three in both games and against the Bulldogs she shot 7-10 from the free throw line, including icing the game down the stretch with four in crunch time.

UAB COURT (1-0):
The Blazers began their season with an 85-53 home victory against Auburn Montgomery where they made 29 field goals on 20 assists, hit 13 threes, and shot 42.6 percent from the field. Defensively, they forced 25 turnovers and created nine steals, however they were out rebounded 46-45.

UAB had three individuals record double figures. Graduate student guard Lyndsey Robson had 12 points while shooting four of eight from the field, including two 3-pointers and two free throws. Additionally, she snagged six boards, had one assist and had three turnovers.

Freshman guard Desiree Ware scored 12 points on 57 percent shooting, grabbed two rebounds, and dished out three assists. Graduate student guard Margaret Whitley stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, three rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block while hitting three of six 3-pointers.

The Colonels are 8-9 in games against universities from the state of Alabama under head coach DoBee Plaisance. This is the first meeting between Nicholls and UAB.
