Nicholls Women's Hoops back at home for next four

THIBODAUX, La. - Following a three-game road swing, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team returns to Thibodaux for its next four games, starting this week against UIW (5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (1 p.m, Saturday).

Nicholls (3-14, 2-4 SLC) snapped a four-game losing streak last Thursday with a hard-fought win at UIW (6-12, 2-5 SLC), and the teams will square off again just a week later. The Colonels will be searching for their first win at home in 2022.

The matchup features the league's top two scorers in Chelsea Cain (15.8 ppg) and UIW's Jaaucklyn Moore (16.8). Despite a low-scoring affair in the 47-43 win by the Colonels, the duo did not disappoint as Cain finished with a game-high 23 points and Moore totaled 20.

Nicholls struggled offensively by scoring in single figures in each of the first three quarters, but put up 21 points in the final period to leave San Antonio with the win. The game featured six ties and nine lead changes.

Nicholls and the Islanders (13-7, 5-1 SLC) did not face each other last season, last playing in December of 2019. A&M-Corpus Christi has won the last two meetings against the Colonels which includes a tournament victory in 2019.

The Islanders are in second place in the Southland standings, only trailing undefeated Southeastern. Their offense is paced by two of the top 5 scorers in the league -- Makinna Serrata (13.4 ppg) and Alecia Westbrook (13.4).
