FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University women's track athlete Elania Hansen has been named Southland Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
A native of Tenino, Wa., Hansen clocked a 38:05.72 run in the 10,000m at the Louisiana Classic, placing her third on the Colonels' all-time performers list. While she is the only runner in the Southland to run the event so far this season, her mark is the second best in the NCAA.
The honor is the first career Southland Outdoor Track & Field weekly award for Hansen.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted.
