MCKINNEY, Texas - Nicholls State University men's golfer
Ryan O'Neil matched his opening round score of 74 in Wednesday's final 18 holes of the Southland Conference Championship and took second place with a three-day total of 217.
O'Neil added three more birdies to bring his total up to 10, but also had five bogeys on the day. Carding a 74-69-74--217, his score is the lowest for any Colonel at Stonebridge Ranch in team history.
Despite shooting its best round of 303 Wednesday, Nicholls was unable to maintain its spot at sixth and finished with a 920 -- four strokes behind HBU's 916. Although the Colonels placed seventh, the team score was 23 strokes better than last season's mark in the championship.
Southeastern took the team title with an 892 and UIW's Joe Buenfeld hung on to his late lead, edging O'Neil with a 218.
Martin Trochu had the second best finish for the Colonels, tying for 15th overall (228) after firing a 76 in the final round.
Braxton Kuntz posted his best round on Wednesday with a 75, and was followed by
Jace LeJeune (78) and
Mickael Najmark (81). Kuntz and Najmark each turned in a 239.
