THIBODAUX, La - Nicholls cross country teams triumphed in the Nicholls XC Invitational, with the women's team taking first place overall and the men's finishing runners-up in a competitive race. Combined, the Colonels had 15 place in the top 20 of their respective races.
The women's team took first place in the sole home meet of the season, the first time either team have won at the Nicholls XC Invitational. The women's unit had seven runners place in the top 20, with
Kassidy Besson taking home second place in a time of 18:40.92.
Third place overall went to another Colonel,
Maria Nikolaou, with a time of 19:11.20.
Kalin Baratka earned herself 6th place, running the course in 19:41.52,
Issy Rivault took home 9th place with a time of 20:09.35 and Isabelle Seijlhouwer came in 11th place finishing in 20:18.80.
Sophia Harrison crossed the finish line in a time of 20:22.49 to come 12th place in her debut race for the Colonels and
Avery Guidry was the last Colonel to finish in the top 20, with a time of 20:54.78 to come 14th.
The men's side came in 2nd overall, led by Senior
Lucas Futey, finishing 6th place in a time of 21:09.34.
Goran Duijsters was right behind his teammate, earning 7th place in 21:17.00. 12th went to
William Nizzo, who ran the course in 21:52.66, and 13th place was secured by
William Bellina in a time of 21:53.17.
Chase Walker came in 19th place, crossing the line at 22:15.55, and to round up the Colonel's top 20 was
Thomas Saunders, completing the race in 22:24.20 for 20th place.
Overall, the men finished 2nd after TAMU-Texarkana, only seven points behind the Eagles. The women dominated the race, finishing 40 points ahead of second-place runners-up Alcorn State.
