BATON ROUGE, La. - Nicholls State University football safety
Tyler Morton received another honor Monday evening as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association named him LSWA Defensive Player of the Week.
The recognition is the third weekly award for the junior defensive back. Earlier on Monday, Morton received Southland Player of the Week and FCS National honorable mention for the second straight week.
Morton, a graduate of Destrehan, had two of the Colonels' four turnovers after recording a pair of first-half interceptions in the win over HCU. Morton and the Colonel defense held the Huskies to a lone touchdown in the opening quarter en route to a 38-7 victory. Combined with the 10 points allowed last week at McNeese, the defense surrendered its fewest points in back-to-back league games since the Colonels' 47-14 win over Stephen F. Austin and 44-0 victory over Southeastern to secure the 2018 Southland title.
A preseason All-SLC selection, Morton is the first defensive player in the Southland to earn two weekly honors. He was named SLC POW last week after having an interception and forced fumble against McNeese.
