THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University Athletics announced Thursday afternoon the football team's home game against Northwest State scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 has been canceled.
 
The cancelation is due to the recent passing of Ronnie Caldwell, a junior safety on the Northwestern State football team. To read more about Caldwell's life, please click here. 
 
"We are saddened by the news and our thoughts are with the Northwestern State program.  At this time, our main focus is supporting Northwestern State as they navigate this heartbreaking tragedy." said Jonathan Terrell, Nicholls Vice President of Collegiate Athletics and Athletics Director. "As we always say here, we're in this together, and that extends to our friends and colleagues at Northwestern State."
 
Nicholls returns to the field next weekend with their first trip to Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The next home game will be on Oct. 28 against SEMO.
