FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University running back
Jaylon Spears notched his first career weekly honor as the Southland Conference named him Offensive Player of the Week following a second-straight career outing.
A native of New Orleans, Spears rushed for over 150 yards for the second straight game and totaled three touchdowns in the title-clinching win over Lamar. The redshirt sophomore racked up 177 yards rushing on 16 carries with two rushing TDs, and also scored the Colonels' first touchdown on a 29-yard reception. He then broke free for a 69-yard score in the second quarter before adding a 14-yard highlight run in the third.
Spears is the third Colonel to win offensive player of the week this season, joining two-time winner and backfield mate
Collin Guggenheim. Spears leads the Southland in rushing in conference at 111 yards per game with an impressive 8.3 yards per carry.

Nicholls will wrap up the regular season with the annual River Bell Classic against Southeastern on Thursday, Nov. 16. Kickoff at Strawberry Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
