THIBODAUX, La. – After beginning the season 3-0 for the first time in program history, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will cross state lines for the first time to take on SMU in Dallas on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
This is the first time the Colonels are facing the Mustangs since their 2017-18 Southland Conference Tournament winning season.
The Colonels had an impressive week that saw them take down North American University (82-65), SUNO (94-52), and Tulane (69-66) for the first time since 1991.
Nicholls has a balanced offense that features three double figure scorers.
Sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds to lead the Colonels to the first 3-0 start in program history. In the win over Tulane, she played all 40 minutes and posted 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
Freshman guard
Britiya Curtis averaged 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3 assists. In the win over the Green Wave, she poured in a team-high 18 points including four shots from long range and grabbed 8 boards.
Last week, senior guard
Kyla Hamilton averaged 10.3 points and four rebounds, while
Betzalys Delgado stuffed the stat sheet with averages of 9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and a team high 5.3 assists.
SMU began their season 2-0 after beating UC Riverside 78-55 and Alabama State 96-47. After two games, the Mustangs have four individuals that average double figure points.
Last week, Amirah Abdur-Rahim averaged 11 points and 7 rebounds while Ella Brow added 10 points and five boards.
