BATON ROUGE, La. - Nicholls State University safety Tyler Morton received another weekly honor as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association named him Defensive Co-Player of the Week. 

Morton, who is a two-time SLC Player of the Week, garnered his second honor from the state as well after helping the Colonels clinch a share of the regular season title with their win over Lamar on Saturday. Morton filled the stat sheet with five solo tackles, three pass breakups and his league-high fourth interception against the Cardinals. After Lamar cut the deficit to 20-18, Nicholls answered with a touchdown and Morton picked off a pass on the Cardinals' first play of the ensuing possession. The Colonels scored with the short field and led by double figures the rest of the way. 

Morton has been responsible for five turnovers for the defense which ranks second in the FCS with 24 on the season. His team-high four picks also has the unit ranked first in the nation with 16 interceptions.

Nicholls will wrap up the regular season with the annual River Bell Classic against Southeastern on Thursday, Nov. 16. Kickoff at Strawberry Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
