Cold Start Costs Nicholls WBB at Grambling

Final Stats GRAMBLING, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell 69-50 to Grambling State University on Willis Reed Court at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Colonels struggled to find their offensive footing early on as they hit six field goals in the first 15 minutes of the contest. The lid remained on the basket and the Colonels finished the half shooting 22.2 percent (8-36) from the field and 2-12 from beyond the arc.
 
For the half, Grambling shot 53.8 percent from the field, hit one shot from deep, and won the second quarter 20-7 to hold a 34-18 lead at the intermission.
 
In the third, the Colonels hit four field goals compared the Lady Tigers' five made field goals. However, the difference in the third quarter was at the free throw line. Nicholls shot 6-10 and Grambling shot 11-15 from the charity stripe.
 
The Colonels got their shooting percentage up to 28.8 as they hit more field goals in the second half compared to the first. The lady Tigers led by as much as 26 in the second half.
 
Sophomore forward Lexi Alexander hit six field goals and led the team with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
 
Senior guard Mikayla Etienne hit four field goals including three from beyond the arc to finish with 13 points to post her first double figure scoring output of the season.

The Red & Gray (6-5) will open the new year beginning Southland Conference action hosting Southeastern on Thursday, Jan. 4. The Colonels will hit the road to Houston, Texas to take on HCU.
