THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will host the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. The action will be streamed via ESPN+.
This is the second meeting between the Colonels and the Blazers. UAB won last year's meeting 69-40 in Birmingham.
Earlier this week, Nicholls (6-4) beat the University of South Alabama 61-58 inside the Mitchell Center on Monday night. It was the first victory over the Jaguars since 2014.
In that game, the Colonels erased a nine-point fourth quarter deficit led by senior guard
Ashley Malone and sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander.
Malone poured in 11 fourth quarter points to lead the comeback. She hit three of four field goals and added four shots from the charity stripe to fuel the Colonels and bring her scoring average up to 7.2 points per contest.
Alexander scored eight points in the fourth frame to finish with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while hitting nine of 10 shots from the foul line. Her outburst improved her averages to 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds.
Freshman guard
Britiya Curtis had nine points on Monday and is the only other Colonel to average double figure points (10.1). Her classmate
Betzalys Delgado leads the team in assists with 3.8 per game.
