FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University freshman pitcher
Jacob Mayers received his first career weekly honor as he was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Mayers had his second dominating start in as many weekends with 11 strikeouts in five shutout innings in an 8-0 victory at Louisiana Tech. Mayers allowed just two hits, one coming in the third where he struck out the side. He had two strikeouts in each of the other four innings and exited the game after five with a 2-0 lead.
For the season, Mayers is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA with 20 Ks and two hits allowed in 10 innings.
