FRISCO, Texas - After helping the Colonels to a series win at McNeese, Nicholls State University first baseman
Edgar Alvarez has been named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Alvarez put together a phenomenal week at the plate, batting .500 with four RBIs to lead the Colonels to a 3-1 week. The Orlando, Florida native hit safely in all four games and in the series win over McNeese, he posted three multi-hit efforts for a .583 average (7-of-12) and had four doubles. In the 12th inning on Saturday, Alvarez recorded his third double of the game for the go-ahead RBI. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak in Lake Charles for the Colonels, dating back to the 2015 season.Â
Alvarez went 2-for-3 in Sunday's victory and added two more walks, giving him four for the weekend. In addition to his .500 average, Alvarez had a .619 on-base percentage for the week. He currently ranks fifth in the league with a .354 batting average.
