THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University beach volleyball team picked up a pair of victories in the program's inaugural Clash on the Cajun Bayou, hosted at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

Playing in essentially its third full season, the Colonels won two matches in the same weekend for the first time in program history. Nicholls started the Clash with a 5-0 win over LaGrange College before pulling out a hard-fought 3-2 win over Loyola New Orleans on Sunday. The Colonels split their matches for the weekend, falling 5-0 to New Orleans and ULM.

The top of the lineup anchored the Colonels in the wins as Kennedi Steele and Aspen Steele teamed up for two victories at No. 1. Playing at No. 2, Katie Jones and Luciana Chuong won both of their matches against LaGrange and Loyola. Also earning wins in both matches were Bethanie Durant and Alisha Wischkaemper at No. 3. The duo of Durant/Wischkaemper also took at set against New Orleans.

Nicholls continues the season with a trip to Texas for the Southland Roundup next weekend, hosted at Third Coast in Houston.
