FRISCO, Texas – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will take on an 18-game Southland Conference schedule as the league office announced Tuesday morning its 2023-24 SLC Basketball schedules. 
 
Led by first-year head coach Tevon Saddler, the Colonels will play a home-and-home slate against all nine Southland opponents. New for this season, the men's teams will be featured on Mondays throughout 2024 while both the men and women will continue their Saturday doubleheaders. 
 
League play gets underway after the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 6 with a trip to Houston as the Colonels take on HCU. Two days later, Nicholls will host rival Southeastern for a Monday matchup in Saddler's home Southland debut. The contest kicks off the Colonels' lone three-game league home stand.
 
The regular season concludes on March 6 with a return trip to SLU. 
 
Once again, McNeese will host the Southland Conference Tournament, slated to begin on March 10. Lake Charles is also the home for the Southland Conference Basketball Media Days set for Oct. 10. 
 
Serving as the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I Men's Basketball, Saddler will look to continue Nicholls' string of three consecutive winning seasons in conference which includes a pair of league titles. As a former Colonel himself, Saddler helped the Red and Gray to a 21-win campaign and a Southland championship in his lone season in 2017-18. 
 
All conference games will be featured on ESPN+ throughout the season. 

The full 2023-24 schedule will be announced on a later date.
