THIBODAUX La - The Nicholls State University cross country teams are getting ready to head down to Baton Rouge for the LSU XC Invitational this Friday, Sept. 15.
The teams will face in-state foes Southeastern, Dillard, Xavier-Louisiana and LSU, along with out-of-state competition in Alcorn State.
At the event, the men's unit will run a 6k course starting at 8:15 a.m. and the women's squad will run a 5k course at 9 a.m.
The Colonels are coming off a solid performance at the UNO XC Season Opener where both teams finished in 4th place. The Colonels had four runners across both squads place in the top 30 and are hoping to build on this down in Baton Rouge.
Head Coach Stefanie Slekis shared her thoughts on the upcoming meet.
"I'm excited to compete after two really good weeks of training since the opener. It will be great to see our progress in a race situation and to see how we do with another 1k of distance added to both the men's and women's course"
Slekis also commented on the expectations
"On paper, we should be the number two team behind LSU, so we're looking to have our top group mix it up with their top group and see how close we can get to them whilst solidifying the wins over the other teams there."
