Nicholls XC Ready to Host 5th Annual Invitational

THIBODAUX, La - After an impressive outing at the LSU XC Invitational, the Nicholls State University cross country teams will host the 5th annual Nicholls XC Invitational at Nicholls Farm on Saturday, Sept. 30th at 8 a.m. The event will include collegiate, high school and community races.

The Colonels are coming off an impressive performance at the LSU XC Invitational on Sept. 15th, where both teams came in 2nd place overall and they are hoping to build on this success.

The Colonels will face Southland Conference foes Southeastern for the third time this season, along with instate competition such as Loyola-New Orleans, Southern and Dillard. Out of state teams competing include Alcorn, Texas A&M-Texarkana and Victoria College.

Head Coach Stefanie Slekis shared how she was feeling going into the home meet.

"We've been training really hard, it's the last meet we will go into tired, so it will be a big mental toughness day to be able to race hard whilst we are tired."

Slekis and the team are ready to compete at their home meet.

"For the women, we'd be disappointed if we don't win as a team. We're excited to see how many we can get into the top ten. For the men's side, it's a bit more competitive, so it will be a very competitive top ten. However, we do believe we should be the strongest team there, so we're all very excited."

Coach Slekis spoke about how thankful the Colonels are for the premier donors who support the Nicholls XC Invitational.

"We're very grateful for Scorpion Subsea, they support every one of our home events and they have sponsored both the Nicholls XC Invitational and the Colonel 5k from the very start. Additionally, CLH Build is cooking for all the university teams which made a huge impact on the teams we were able to bring into the meet. They both have been able to help create the ideal experience to have on the Bayou."
