THIBODAUX, La. -- After splitting games during the opening week of the season, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will return home to host Grambling inside Stopher Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Last week the Red & Gray played in a pair of thrillers. They opened the season with a 53-51 loss at LA Tech before taking down Tulane 65-63 on Thursday night. For the second consecutive season the Colonels first road win of the season came against the Green Wave and the Colonels defeated Tulane in two straight matchups for the first time since 1990-91.
In the Colonels victory over Tulane freshman guard
Jesslynn Jalomo fueled the offense with 23 points and had two clutch three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Jalomo scored 17 points in the first half and finished the night 5 of 10 from behind the arc. She is one of four players in the SLC who hit at least 7 shots from beyond the arc in the opening week.
The long-range excellence was contagious as sophomore guard
Britiya Curtis hit four of the Colonels' 12 triples as the unit shot 48 percent from deep. The Red & Gray was also efficient from the charity stripe going 15 for 21 including multiple down the stretch to hold the lead.
On Monday in Ruston, sophomore forward
Tanita Swift was the steady had for the Colonels as she registered 15 points, four assists, and six steals in her Red & Gray debut. Senior forward
Deonna Brister hit five of her six field goal attempts and a pair of free throws to finish with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.
