Men's Cross Country

Colonel XC Heads to Texas for South Central Regional Championships

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University cross country teams will compete in the 2024 NCAA South Central Regional Championships in College Station, Texas on Friday, Nov. 15.

The action from Dale Watts '71 Cross Country Course will begin with the women's 6k race at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the men's 10k at 10 a.m.

Head Coach Stefanie Slekis spoke about how training has been since the SLC Championships and what to look forward to from the women's squad.

"We are trying to go out more aggressively than we did at the Atruro Barrios Invitational earlier this season," Slekis said. "We have seen the women's fitness progress in the past month of training.  We saw Issy Rivault race with great confidence at the conference championship meet unfortunately we had three other ladies in our top 5 that did not feel great at the conference championship, and we are hoping that they will be able to put it all together at the regional championship for a strong team showing."

Slekis talked about the difference in distance for the men and they have prepared.

"The men are excited to move up to the 10k course after having a great showing at the 8k Atruro Barrios meet. We know we have put in the work for the 10k since August so we are excited to see how that will translate on course that we know we can race well on, "Slekis said. "Our three seniors Lucas, Goran, and Wesley are looking forward to racing well on what will be there final collegiate cross-country race. Our underclassmen are excited to get a 10k performance as they will become the team leaders next year."
