THIBODAUX, La. – After opening the season in Ruston earlier this week, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will make the short trip to New Orleans to take on Tulane on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 pm.
Nicholls enters the matchup 0-1 after falling to LA Tech in the season opener while this will be the Green Waves' first game under first year head coach Ashley Langford.
Last year Nicholls beat Tulane for the first time since1991 (69-66) after dropping the previous 14 matchups. In the victory eventual SLC Rookie of the Year and Preseason ALL SLC selection
Britiya Curtis erupted for 18 points while snagging eight boards and swiping three steals in 33 minutes off the bench.
Betzalys Delgado had 11 points while
Violette Skipworth added eight help the Red & Gray win.
In the Colonels' narrow loss on Monday, the offense struggled to find its rhythm in the first quarter. However, freshman guard
Jesslynn Jalomo scored eight points including a long-range triple to help the Colonels build some momentum going into the break. The Red & Gray opened the second half with an 11-0 run to take a 38-34 lead.
The Colonels entered the fourth with a two-point lead committed three turnovers and missed three shots during the first half of the quarter and did not make a field goal until senior forward
Deonna Brister hit a jumper to bring the Colonels within two (44-46) with 4:51 to go. The teams traded buckets and free throws down the stretch as the Lady Techsters held on for the two-point win.
Sophomore forward
Tanita Swift was the steady had for the Colonels as she registered 15 points, four assists, and six steals in her Red & Gray debut. Brister hit five of her six field goal attempts and a pair of free throws to finish with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.
