THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team wraps up its seven-game home stand with a Tuesday night matchup against nationally-ranked LSU at Swanner Field at GeoSurfaces Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The game is officially sold out and tickets will not be available for purchase at the gates. Seating in the bleachers is general admission. Pre-ordered tickets can be picked up at will call on the first-base side.Â
Nicholls (17-14) had a bye week for league play with its last game coming on Wednesday in a thrilling 7-6 victory in nine innings against Southern Miss. The Colonels were unable to hold on to a late 5-1 lead but outlasted the Golden Eagles in extra innings thanks to a walk-off home run by
Mckenzie Champagne. The senior had a career day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs, and was name Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for the first time in her career.Â
Molly VandenBout continues to pace the offense with a .345 batting average after recording one of the Colonels' 10 hits against Southern Miss.
Claire Sisco tripled in the victory to extend her reached base streak to 12 games and is third on the team with a .289 batting average.
Reagan Heflin is hitting .303 and is tied with VandenBout for the team lead with six doubles.Â

Molly Yoo and
Audrey McNeill have carried the load for the Colonels, combining for over 75 percent of the innings pitched. Both faced LSU in the season opener at Tiger Park with McNeill allowing one earned run on four hits in 3.0 innings in the 8-0 loss. Yoo pitched an inning of relief and surrendered three earned on four hits.Â
The season-opening win for LSU improved the Tigers' all-time record against the Colonels to 38-1. Sydney Berzon limited Nicholls to two hits and struck out eight in the win, with
Gabby Higbee and
Abby Andersen accounting for the Colonels' base hits.Â
The lone victory in the all-time series came in the opening weekend of the 1998 season with the Colonels winning 3-0 at Tiger Park. The Tigers' last visit to Swanner Field resulted in a 9-0 LSU victory in five innings in the 2014 season.
LSU (25-4) is coming off a series loss at No. 15 Missouri but picked up the win in the finale, 4-3. The Tigers also dropped two of three last weekend against Ole Miss, who swept the Colonels in a doubleheader at Swanner Field the Wednesday prior.Â

Nicholls will return to league play with a three-game series at Lamar, starting Thursday, March 28. The opener is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with Friday's doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
