FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University softball senior Mckenzie Champagne was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week following her career night in the Colonels' win over Southern Miss last Wednesday. 

A native of Lockport, Louisiana, Champagne went 4-for-4 in the nine-inning victory against the Golden Eagles, ending the game with her second home run of the night. She started her outing with a solo homer in the third for the game's first hit, then followed with two base hits which included an RBI single in the sixth. Then in the ninth, she sent the first pitch over the center field wall for a 7-6 walk-off victory. 

Champagne is the second Colonel to win Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, joining Molly VandenBout. Audrey McNeill also won a weekly award earning pitcher of the week.

Nicholls will host nationally-ranked LSU on Tuesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. The game is sold out but will can be watched on ESPN+.
