Nicholls Baseball Heads to Hammond for SLC Tournament

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday, May 22 in the first round of the 2024 Southland Conference Tournament on Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in Hammond.
 
Last week the Colonels (34-20, 16-8 SLC) won two of three games against McNeese to finish second in the regular season standings while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (22-33, 10-14 SLC) loss two of three against Southeastern to finish seventh.
 
Nicholls will play in the Southland Conference Tournament for the 10th time in program history. The Colonels are 14-14 all-time in the Southland Tournament and has won two titles in 1998 and 2023. This is the second time the Colonels finished in the No. 2 spot with the first time being in the 2014 SLC Tournament. Nicholls went 0-2 that year.
 
Nicholls won 34 games in back-to-back seasons, winning 30-plus in the regular season for the first time since 2014-15. With a 16-8 mark in conference, the team registered its highest winning percentage since 2014. The Red & Gray went 13-8 against the tournament field, winning three series, 2-1, sweeping two and losing one 2-1 and being swept once.
 
This is the first time the Colonels and Islanders will be meeting in the Southland Tournament. The Red & Gray swept the Islanders earlier this season.
