Heflin, Andersen named Softball All-Southland

FRISCO, Texas – The Nicholls State University softball team had two players named to the 2024 All-Southland Team as outfielders Reagan Heflin received first team and Abby Andersen garnered second team. 

The duo marks the third consecutive year Nicholls has had multiple all-league honorees under head coach Justin Lewis. The season honor is the first for both Heflin and Andersen.

A native of Richmond, Texas, Heflin put together a breakout sophomore campaign where she ranked second in SLC play with a .386 batting average. She totaled 32 hits in conference, tying for first with nine doubles while driving in 16 RBIs, which tied for fourth in the SLC. On the season, Heflin racked up 16 multi-hit games and posted the seventh-best batting average with a .344 average. 

Andersen was also outstanding in conference play, tying for third with a .377 batting average. In the SLC slate, the Mesa, Arizona native finished with 20 hits including two doubles and was 9 for 9 in stolen bases. Along with hitting .304 on the season with 16 RBIs, she ended the regular season with an 18-game on-base streak and a seven-game hitting streak. 

Southeastern had the most all-conference selections with eight, with regular-season champion McNeese accounting for seven. UIW registered five selections, and HCU and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had one each. 

ON DECK
As the No. 3 seed, Nicholls opens play in the Southland Conference Tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Colonels will play the winner of No. 6 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and No. 7 HCU.
