THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University recently announced the naming of the Big 5 Family Plaza at the Boucvalt Athletic Complex – a gameday gathering space modeled after the outside plazas found in major stadiums.

Thanks to Nicholls Athletics Hall of Famer Josh Son, the newly dedicated Big 5 Family Plaza serves as a central hub for pregame activities, gameday seating, postgame celebrations, and a gathering place for the Colonel community.

"I want to give a heartfelt thank you to this incredible university – a place that deserves so much credit for the person I've become and the journey I've had. Nearly 25 years ago, this community welcomed me with open arms, and I've been forever grateful since," said Son.

Located in the south end zone of John L. Guidry Stadium, the Boucvalt Athletic Complex opened in 2021 thanks to the generosity of businessman Trey Boucvalt and has since become a cornerstone of Nicholls athletics. The facility features modern locker rooms, offices, meeting spaces, and a catering kitchen – all designed to support student-athletes and enhance the Colonel experience.

"To have my family name tied to such a meaningful place on this campus is an honor that's hard to put into words. I'm so grateful for the lessons I learned here – not just in football, but in life – and for the people who helped shape that experience," Son added.

Nicholls Vice President for Collegiate Athletics Jonathan Terrell said, "The Big 5 Family Plaza gives our fans and families a space to come together and celebrate. It's more than just an addition to the complex – it's a reminder of the Colonel spirit that makes Nicholls such a special place."
