MATHEWS, La. - Sophomore
Kyle Traub shot under par in all three rounds and finished with a 9-under 207 to tie for sixth place as the Nicholls State University men's golf team finished its fall schedule in the annual LaTour Intercollegiate at the LaTour Golf Club.
Traub saved his best for last as he carded a 4-under 68 in Tuesday's final round. In Monday's action, he shot a 69 and 70 en route to his first career Top-10 finish.
For the tournament, Traub totaled 16 birdies which was tied for fourth most in the 80-golfer field. Seven came in the final 18 including a stretch of four in five holes on the back nine.
As a team, Nicholls shot an 874 (294-286-294) to place seventh out of 15 teams. The best showing was the second round where the Colonels shot 2-under. The B-Team also competed in the event and finished with an 885 (299-291-295) for ninth place.
Jack Moro was the next highest finisher, tying for 31st with a 218. Moro led the entire field with 40 pars while adding six birdies.
Following closely behind on the leaderboard were
Ethan Marx (220) and
Zachary Morvant.
East Texas A&M won the team title with an 827, besting South Dakota by nine strokes. The Lions' Janis Erll and Midland College's Scott Spark both shot 13-under to tie after 54 holes, and Spark claimed medalist honors after a two-hole playoff.Â
