THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will conclude its regular season on the road, starting Saturday (March 1) against Stephen F. Austin. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Riding a three-game winning streak, Nicholls (18-11, 12-6 SLC) heads on its final road trip looking to secure at least one bye in next week's Southland Conference Tournament. The Colonels will lock up a single bye with a win over SFA (14-15, 7-11 SLC). Nicholls is tied for third with Southeastern and is a game back of Monday's opponent, Lamar, for second.
A victory would also give Nicholls its first sweep of the Lumberjacks since 1998, and be the first back-to-back wins since 2009-10. The Colonels will also be searching for their first win in Nacogdoches since 2000, dropping the last 14.
Nicholls took down SFA in its first home SLC game of 2025, 73-61. The Colonels connected on 12 of 23 from three-point range, led by five from
Robert Brown III who made five and finished with 16 points.
Byron Ireland led the offense with 17 points and
Jaylen Searles added 11.Â
A 71-69 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday capped the three-game winning streak for the Colonels. The bench handled the offensive output with
Michael Gray Jr. continuing his prowess as sixth man, netting 22 points, and
Emarion Ellis also had a career-high 17 points. In his last six games, Gray is averaging 21.2 points per game and leads the Colonels in scoring in conference at 14.8 ppg.Â
SFA is fighting for the final spot in the SLC Tournament as the Lumberjacks are 1.0 games back of UIW for the No. 8 seed. Winners of three straight at home, SFA will wrap up their regular season by hosting first-place McNeese after Saturday's game against the Colonels.
