McAllen, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's golf team closed out the two-day South Texas Match Play event with a 4-1 win over New Orleans.
Nicholls took on host UTRGV in the opening match and fell 5-0 before dropping a 4.5-0.5 match against UIW. But against UNO,
Chase Pochylko,
Kyle Traub,
Jack Moro and
James Bould each came out on top.
The Colonels had a tough time keeping up with the Vaqueros on their home course on Monday. UTRGV combined for just two bogeys between their five golfers and tallied three eagles. Moro, who had an eagle for the Colonels, had the closest match as he fell 2&1.
Against UIW, Traub birdied to win his final hole against Francisco Taboada to end the match in a tie.
In the win over New Orleans, Pochylko won 1Up after carding a birdie on his final hole. Traub birdied two of his final three holes to win 2&1, and Moro registered seven birdies in his round to secure a 4&3 victory. Bould shot a 2-over to secure a 2Up win.
