FRISCO, Texas - For the second time in as many seasons, Nicholls State University men's basketball senior forward
Jamal West Jr. has been named All-Southland Second Team as the league office announced Friday its 2024-25 all-conference teams and superlative awards.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, West averaged 13.3 points in league play and ranked in the top 10 in the Southland in field goal percentage (.540/2nd), blocks (28/5th) and rebounding (6.7/8th). West recorded five double-doubles in conference which tied for third most in the league.
For the season, West scored in double figures 20 times including 22-point games against Lamar and UTRGV, which were also two of his double-digit rebounding efforts. On the defensive end, West blocked two or more shots in 14 games, highlighted by a season-high five in the win at East Texas A&M.
West logged 26 starts for the Colonels in his second campaign, averaging 12.1 points for the season on 50.8 percent shooting. He made the second-most free throws in the league with 118, ranking eighth in percentage at 70.7 percent.
With his 13 points at SFA last weekend, West reached 1,000 for his career between his four years at South Alabama and Nicholls. He has averaged 12.8 points and 6.9 rebounds as a Colonel to go along with 100 total blocks.
