Baseball Hits the Road to Battle Lamar

THIBODAUX, La. – After completing a four-game home stand earlier in the week, the Nicholls State University baseball team will return to Southland Conference action in a three-game series at Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on April 11-13.

The action from Vincent-Beck Stadium will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, 5 p.m. on Saturday, and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Nicholls (12-21, 6-12 SLC) held a 3-0 lead over No. 3 LSU before the Tigers erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to beat the Colonels in Thibodaux on Tuesday night. The Red & Gray is looking to flip the switch as they have dropped eight of their last nine league contests.

The Colonels are batting .255 in league play as the unit has recorded 152 hits, 81 RBIs, and 23 doubles over 18 games. Chase Jans (.311) leads unit with 23 hits and seven RBI while scoring 14 runs. Jaden Collura (.288) has 19 hits including a team-high four doubles and 18 RBI.

Lamar (27-8, 9-6 SLC) enters the weekend with the most overall wins in the SLC and have won 12 of their last 13 contests but are sixth in the standings. The Cardinals' offense features five starters batting over .300 as Damian Ruiz (.417) and Heladio Moreno (.391) lead the way with 55 and 50 hits, respectively.
