THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University Track and Field and Cross-Country programs will hold their 8th Annual Colonel 5K on Saturday, May 10.
 
The course spans across campus and for the third year the race is in partnership with the Nicholls Student Programming Association who will have several color powder stations throughout the race. 

Early registration for the race remains open until May 7 (a t-shirt is guaranteed to those who register by May 7) with a fee of $30. Race day registration will be available for $35 but t-shirts are not guaranteed. All proceeds raised will benefit the Nicholls Track and Field and Cross-Country teams. The participants in the Kids 1K will receive a medal for being a Hope Lodge Champion and the proceeds from the event will go to The Ross Mullooly Project: Outrunning Cancer. Monica and James Mallooly gave their thoughts on the upcoming event. "We are so excited to partner with Nicholls State and continue Ross' mission in support of the Patrick Taylor Hope Lodge." 
 
Nicholls T&F/XC Head Coach Stefanie Slekis shared her excitement about the upcoming community event.
 
"We are so excited to host our 8th addition of our Colonel 5k and partner again with Nicholls SPA to bring the Color Pop to our race," Slekis said. "Thanks to our partnership with SPA all Nicholls Students can register through SPA to receive their race shirt & compete for free! There will also be race day registration for everyone. Shirts are only guaranteed for those registered before 4/28."
 
Slekis spoke about the new elements within the event and how the event will affect the team and the community.
 
"This year we are excited to launch our NEW kids 1k that will also be a timed event with t-shirts and awards. The proceeds from the Kids 1k will go to The Ross Mullooly Project: Outrunning Cancer. The proceeds from the 5k will continue to benefit Nicholls Track & Field and Cross Country," Slekis said.
 
Prize packages will be awarded to top Male & Female overall finishers and top Male & Female masters finishers. Male and Female age group winners will be recognized with medals.

Event Schedule: 
6:30 a.m. - Race day registration opens ($35) and closes 15 prior to the start of the race.
8 a.m. - Colonel 5k begins. 
9:15 a.m. – Kids 1K Run
9:45 a.m. - Colonel 5k awards
